Cotton Mill Apartments Leads in Green Technology
We are among the first in Wisconsin to change from a traditional heating and cooling system to a geothermal system in a mulihousing complex. The Cotton Mills Apartments, located in Janesville, Wisconsin, is going Green! The building, built in 1875, was converted to 47 apartments in 1985. The Cotton Mills Exchange, LLC purchased the building in August 2006 and has made significant improvements since. The most recent is the implementation of a geothermal system to provide a new heating and cooling source --- nature's water. A geothermal system is being installed that includes 40+ wells tapping into nature's water table. The 55-degree water will be used to cool and heat the building. Currently, the building uses the City's treated water and sewer system. "The geothermal system will provide a significant savings to the city, the community, tenants and The Cotton Mills Exchange, LLC", says Rick Eckes, owner. We anticipate city water consumption will be reduced by at least 70 percent compared to the current system. |
